Truly a gastronomy haven, that boasts a culinary scene that rivals many large cities, we can’t get enough of the incredible selection of dining options that offer cuisines from around the world from some of the best world-class chefs. One can find everything from intimate cafes, to outdoor bbq pits, to fine dining, and of course we can’t get enough of some of the city’s signature dishes including: shrimp and grits, coconut cake, praline pecans, she crab bisque, fried okra, and the freshest seafood straight off the boat. That being said, we love that sushi has carved out a prominent place among the Southern flavors. If you are a sushi lover like us, here are three of the top sushi spots you shouldn't miss.

O-Ku

Located on Upper King Street, O-Ku offers a sophisticated sushi experience in a trendy, modern setting. Known for its innovative approach to traditional sushi, “O-Ku celebrates authentic Asian cuisine with a regional approach with a menu that focuses on unique ingredients and sophisticated presentations. From petite plates to sushi specialties, the menu showcases the freshest fish from the world’s finest markets and producers in areas such as Norway, Scotland, Hawaii and New Zealand, as well as local sustainable sources.”The restaurant’s ambiance is upscale yet inviting, making it perfect for both special occasions and casual nights out.

Signature dishes at O-Ku include the "Masa Roll" with tempura shrimp, avocado, and spicy tuna, topped with eel sauce and crunch, and the Nigri options are out of this world. O-Ku also offers an extensive selection of sake, making it a great spot for pairing your sushi with the perfect drink.

Fuji

Fuji Sushi Bar & Grill, with convenient locations in Nexton, Downtown, Freshfields, Mount Pleasant, and Hwy 41, is a beloved spot for sushi enthusiasts. This restaurant is praised for its laid back atmosphere, and consistently high-quality sushi. This is our favorite to-go spot and we love that the menu caters to both traditional and adventurous palates.

Must-try items at Fuji include the "Volcano Roll," a spicy concoction with baked scallop, crab meat, and shrimp, and the "Sweetheart Roll," featuring salmon, tuna, crab, cucumber, and avocado wrapped in soy paper prepared in a heart shape, and the “Christmas Roll” which is tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, and mango wrapped in soy paper topped with avocado, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and masago. Fuji also offers a variety of cooked dishes, including hibachi and teriyaki, providing plenty of options for those who might want a break from sushi.

Shiki

Shiki, situated in the heart of downtown Charleston, has been a staple in the city's sushi scene for over a decade.
