Sullivan's Island

The Vibe

Nestled just off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina, Sullivan’s Island stands proud with a distinct vibe exuding that quintessential Lowcountry charm. After just one visit you’ll discover a unique blend of history, stunning ocean views, and a laid-back beach vibe.

Sullivan’s Island truly has a distinct vibe that you won’t find anywhere else, and to be honest, that’s why we feel the Charleston barrier islands are so special. Each one has its own personality straight down to the local businesses and style of homes. Here on Sullivan’s, you are greeted first by the sweeping ocean views and miles of endless beach. It’s beach on one side, that gently winds it’s way to the Charleston Harbor, while on the other side it’s all about the Intracoastal and Old Village, Mount Pleasant. Life here is lived on the water, and one can certainly see why. And it’s this distinct coastal living lifestyle that creates an inviting ambiance and a local community feel. It’s a place where time seems to slow down, where nature puts on a show each day at sunrise and sunset, and where you feel at home.

PROS & CONS

  • Beauty

The island offers some of the most stunning scenery and natural setting around. The panoramic views of the Atlantic, Charleston Harbor, and Intracoastal water can’t be beat.

  • Cost

As one of the most expensive places to live in the Charleston area, the price to buy on the island is steep.

  • Community

This is a place where you know your neighbors. Honestly the small town feel is one of our favorite things about the island. It’s close-knit and cozy.

  • Hurricane & Flooding

This barrier island with a prime coastal location does not come without a risk of storms and flooding. And it is particularly vulnerable due to it’s geography and the fact that it’s surrounded on all sides by water.

  • Outdoors

The endless and expansive beaches here allow for a multitude of water sports, and the beautiful streets make getting outside easy and accessible.

  • Limited Amenities

Though the island itself is a foodie paradise with many fine dining options, essentials like groceries and medical are found further afield back in Mount Pleasant. And with the influx of tourists and traffic that the island sees, transit time can be an annoyance.
