PROS & CONS

  • Neighborhood Feel

The island offers community events for all ages throughout the year and many social clubs. There are also numerous parks, playgrounds, and outdoor areas built for community living at its finest.

  • Traffic

Though the island is accessible to Downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and the I-26 suburbs, there is just one way on and off the island which makes the area quite congested during certain times of the day.

  • Amenities

The island offers a range of amenities, including a distinct downtown urban area where all conveniences, dining, and shopping can be found. There is also access to 2 golf courses, sports facilities, and pool/ fitness complexes, which contribute to the many recreation opportunities on the island.

  • Cost

This island is not unlike other islands in that the cost of living is among some of the highest in the Charleston area.

  • Outdoors

The island is surrounded by rivers, harbor, and marsh and thus the views are stunning. Life on the water is simply a way of life on the island.

  • HOA Fees

As a master planned community most homes are part of an HOA (homeowner’s association), and thus subject to a monthly or quarterly HOA fee. This can add a hefty cost to the already high cost of living, and make living on the island impossible for many.
