Folly Beach, SC: “The Edge of America”
Surf Meets Chill at the “Edge of America”
Folly Beach is a captivating barrier island just outside of Charleston, South Carolina. We love the distinct surfer chill vibe that you won’t find elsewhere in the Charleston area, and the waves simply can’t be beat. In fact, we’ve heard they are some of the best on the East Coast.
The Vibe
Here on the island you’ll enjoy a quaint downtown with many restaurant and shopping options along with a lively pier that just underwent a new renovation. And the natural environment is an absolute haven for sun seekers and water enthusiasts alike, offering activities from surfing to shelling to kayaking. If you’re looking to own on the Island, an eclectic mix of options awaits from classic surf shacks and beachfront bungalows to luxury upscale oceanfront properties. Historically many homes have been employed as short term rentals adding another benefit to life on the island, though check out our article here for the changes that we saw in 2023. This all being said, Folly has an undeniable spirit where the sun and sea leave you coming back for more.
Local Business Scene
Chico Feo: An absolute Folly institution. The fish tacos won’t disappoint, and you’ll likely find a seat next to all the surfers that you were riding waves next to all day.
Taco Boy: We crave the salsa and love the tiered levels w/outdoor seating.
Berts Market: It’s a relic on Folly and serves up tasty post beach treats alongside a bit of this and that.
Lost Dog Cafe: A beach cafe serving breakfast all day, and named for the owner’s dog, Hocus, who well apparently has a habit of finding themselves lost quite frequently.
Lowlife Bar: Indoor/ outdoor bar with a casual vibe serving cocktails, slushies, and food sourced from local ingredients.

The Washout: the spot to catch waves, hands down!
