Top Date Nite Ideas: Mt. Pleasant, SC

Mount Pleasant, just across the Cooper River from Charleston, offers a charming blend of laid-back coastal vibes and upscale dining experiences, making it an ideal spot for a fabulous date night. Enjoy an intimate dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants, or take in the stunning beauty of the outdoors. Whether you're a local or just visiting, here are some top date ideas to treat your special someone.

1. Red Drum: A Cozy, Southwestern Escape

Our personal favorite. Described as “South by Southwest”, expect the very best in local seafood with a southwest flair. We go wild for the Enchiladas and the Grouper is the best we’ve ever had. And with its rustic, yet refined atmosphere with a dimly lit dining room, exposed brick walls, and warm tones its perfect for a cozy evening out.

Pro tip: Ask for a table in their outdoor courtyard for a more private dining experience under the stars.

2. Post House: Historic Charm Meets Modern Elegance

Located in the heart of the Old Village in Mount Pleasant, Post House exudes Southern charm and sophistication. It’s truly as cute as a button that whispers of days gone past. We adore this place and love a stay here followed by brunch on the patio. Dinner is equally as enticing, try the Butterbean Burger or enjoy a menu focused on seasonal ingredients and local fare. Fresh oysters, crab cakes, and dry-aged steaks are some of the standout dishes. The minimalist, yet elegant décor and the building’s historic appeal create a unique backdrop for a date night.

For an extra special evening, book a room upstairs at the inn for a little romantic getaway.

3. Wood and Grain: For the Pizza-Lovers

A favorite neighborhood eatery. This is the place for wood fired pizza, seafood (including raw bar), and the very best fresh Tuna around. It’s a bit more casual but with a trendy and laid-back vibe. Don’t miss out on their extensive wine list or house-made cocktails that are crafted to pair perfectly with your meal.

Pro tip: This spot is particularly great for a casual weekday date night or as a fun stop before catching a movie or concert.

4. Opal: Coastal Mediterranean

An elegant setting just off of the IOP connector serving made in house pastas and the most exquisite charcuterie boards. Also, a fabulous wine list. If you’re looking to indulge in fresh seafood and pasta with Mediterranean flair, Opal is the place to go.

This is the perfect restaurant for those looking to enjoy an elegant yet comfortable atmosphere with thoughtful food and wine pairings.

Date Night Activities

Catch a Sunset at Shem Creek

After dinner, take a leisurely stroll along Shem Creek, where you can enjoy stunning views of the water, marshlands, and shrimp boats. It’s one of the best spots to catch a sunset in Mount Pleasant. Many of the restaurants and bars along the creek have outdoor seating, so if you’re in the mood for a nightcap, this is a scenic place to relax with a cocktail in hand.

Our favorites include: Tavern & Table and Sunsets.

Walk Through the Old Village

If you dined at Post House, then a stroll through quaint Old Village is the perfect night-cap. Take in the historic homes, willowy oak trees and end at Pitt Street bridge for a magnificent view of the harbor. C’est tres romantique!

Go for a Night Kayak Tour

For couples looking for something more adventurous, consider booking a full moon or nighttime kayak tour. Several local outfitters offer moonlit tours that explore the local marshes right under the stars. It’s truly such an unforgettable way to connect with the tranquility of the water and surrounded by nature.

Sip Cocktails on a Rooftop Bar

Not ready to call it a night? Head to one of the rooftop bars on Shem Creek for stunning water views, live music and hand crafted cocktails. A favorite of ours though definitely on the livelier side is Saltwater Cowboys.
