Things to do in Charleston: February 2024

Here we go again with the month of love & outdoors! This is the month when we begin to emerge from winter, and thankfully with a mild climate we get to see the flora and fauna awakening =with the promise of spring around the corner. And with that being said, we are looking forward to a host of things to come this month, since this historic city is always buzzing with excitement with a calendar full of festivals, events, and one of a kind experiences that you can only have in the low country.

Here is our rundown of all the great 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 coming your way in the 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺.

Of course, for the outdoor enthusiasts, we are always a fan of SEWE Fest, which takes place each year in Francis Marion National Forest and at select locations on the peninsula like Marion Square. We love that it’s a celebration of nature conservation and an active outdoor lifestyle, and our top offerings are always the dog events and birds of prey demonstrations. It’s truly a gathering that fosters community and environmental stewardship and so we are all for the awareness this festival brings to protecting the local flora and fauna.

Music lovers also won’t be disappointed as this month brings many well-known artists to town including:

And let’s not forget about the Lowcountry Oyster Festival, because if there’s one thing we all can agree upon here in Charleston, South Carolina, it’s that we sure do love our oysters. In fact, it’s no surprise that it would follow that the World’s Largest Oyster Festival takes place here in the Lowcountry in sunny Mount Pleasant each year. In fact, the event brings in 50,000 pounds of these salty bi-valve mollusks and roasts them on the grounds of Boone Hall.

The event also includes eating contests, oyster shucking, and live music from bands such as: Radio Bomb, Uncle Mingo, Blue Dogs, Solid Country Gold, and East Coast Party Band. There is also a beverage line up including speciality cocktails, wine, and beer, and a food court highlighting some of the best local restaurants in the area. And don’t forget the kiddos there will be a fun Children’s are, “Pluff-a-Palooza” just for them.

And finally, February wouldn't be complete without a nod towards the Hallmark holiday of Valentine’s Day, and love it hate to love it…one thing is for sure, Charleston offers the absolute perfect setting for a romantic getaway or date nite. Take a stroll along the cobblestone streets where gas lanterns light your path, revel in the beauty of the architecture, pop into an art gallery, grab a glass of wine while sharing conversation, or indulge in a candlelit dinner at one of the culinary forward restaurants in the City of Charm. Whatever you choose, there is always so much to do and embrace with your special someone.

As February unfolds its charm, we can’t wait to take in all our lovely city has to offer. So, get ready for a good time of celebration and unforgettable moments.
