Old Village, Mount Pleasant, SC: A Quaint Harborside Village

Just over the Ravanel Bridge from Downtown Charleston lies a quaint neighborhood where one feels like they took a step back in time. Meet Old Village, a highly sought after enclave in South Mount Pleasant, and rightfully so.

The Vibe

This is a spot that exudes a timeless charm that hugs the coastline with Sullivan’s on one side and the Charleston Harbor on the other. It’s idyllic tree-lined streets give a palpable sense of community and whisper stories from the village’s historic past. Life here is extremely laid-back where a mason jar of sweet tea is shared on the front porch with neighbors and residents drive their LSVs and ride their beach cruisers into the little downtown strip more than they drive. And of course their is the iconic Pitt Street Bridge where residents enjoy a stroll after dinner for a beautiful sunset with Charleston in the background.

Real estate here comes at a premium, and is often scooped before it hits the market, and a drive through the area shows the extensive renovations and construction that is underway on many of these elegant historic properties. And one of the biggest draws in our minds is the incredible uniqueness that exudes from each home. You’ll find small bungalows next to one story ranch homes followed by luxurious waterfront coastal homes.

No matter what draws you to the area, we’re certain you’ll fall in love just as we have. And remember you don’t have to be from the South, “as long as you get here as fast as you can”.

Local Business Scene

  • Post House Inn: A cute as a button historic inn that whispers of days gone past. We adore this place and love a stay here followed by brunch on the patio. Dinner is equally as enticing, try the Butterbean Burger.

  • Nico’s Shem Creek:  An Oyster and Seafood bar with a French flair. It’s lively and a place to be seen (well in Mount Pleasant, that is). The Plateaux is where it is at, and gives you a sampling of all that is delicious.

  • Page’s Okra Grill: A mainstay on the strip. This is a place where southern cuisine and comfort food reign and the atmosphere is comfortable and casual. Of course try the Shrimp & Grits and sweet tea, and their Chicken & Waffles is famous.

  • Vintage Coffee: A cute house converted to cafe with a sunny outdoor patio with playlet for the kiddos. This is the spot for hanging with friends.

  • Brown Fox Coffee: A walkup coffee bar in the heart of Old Village. This is the spot to meet your neighbors on a Saturday morning.

  • Coastal Crust:  Outdoor eatery next to Vintage Coffee serving up wood fired pizza with fresh, local ingredients.

  • Sunsets Shem Creek: New to the Shem Creek scene, with waterfront dining and of course seafood.

  • The Red Drum: Our personal favorite. Described as “South by Southwest”, expect the very best in local seafood with a southwest flair. We go wild for the Enchiladas and the Grouper is the best we’ve ever had.

  • Pitt Street Pharmacy: An institution on the scene since 1937. The iconic soda fountain stands as a testament to the good ole days and old fashioned fun.

  • Tavern & Table: A favorite eatery with stunning waterfront views on Shem Creek. We love the cheese boards & flat breads, and you can’t go wrong with the Roast Chicken. Also, one of our go to spots for a handcrafted cocktail at sunset.

  • Memorial Waterfront Park: Though technically not part of Old Village, but just minutes away, sitting at the foot of the Ravanel Bridge and a wonderful spot for a picnic.

  • Shem Creek Boardwalk: Watch the shrimping boats come in, the dolphins play, and enjoy the beauty of the marsh and waterfront.

  • Alahambra Hall: A local venue in the heart of Old Village with stunning waterfront views overlooking the Charleston Harbor. A beautiful spot for a gathering or Wedding, and also the home of the local dog park and playgrounds.
