Mount Pleasant, SC: Where Convenience Meets the Beach
Just over the Ravanel Bridge from the Historic Peninsula of Downtown Charleston lies the town of Mount Pleasant. It is at the same time quaint yet modern and suburbia yet small community.
The Vibe
With its picturesque marshes, rivers, and waterfront, this is a lively town that offers many conveniences. In fact, many believe Mount Pleasant simply has it all since it is situated within close proximity to both Downtown Charleston and the barrier islands and thus the beaches of Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms. Here it is all about the Lowcountry lifestyle and even with the development that area has seen in the past 2 decades there is still a feel of local community. There is also a diverse array of neighborhoods from large multi-planned developments to quaint hamlets like Old Village. And there is pretty much every convenience that you might need right off of the main thoroughfare, hwy 17. And though the area has seen significant growth and has been a popular destination for both tourists and new residents alike, the town has made a number of efforts to curtail future growth in order to both maintain the character of the area and allow for expansion. In our minds, Mount Pleasant is truly a place that offers a unique opportunity to blend a modern everyday life with the feeling of always being on vacation in a popular coastal getaway destination.
Local Business Scene
Post House Inn: A cute as a button historic inn that whispers of days gone past. We adore this place and love a stay here followed by brunch on the patio. Dinner is equally as enticing, try the Butterbean Burger.
Nico’s Shem Creek: An Oyster and Seafood bar with a French flair. It’s lively and a place to be seen (well in Mount Pleasant, that is). The Plateaux is where it is at, and gives you a sampling of all that is delicious.
Page’s Okra Grill: A mainstay on the strip. This is a place where southern cuisine and comfort food reign and the atmosphere is comfortable and casual. Of course try the Shrimp & Grits and sweet tea, and their Chicken & Waffles is famous.
Vintage Coffee: A cute house converted to cafe with a sunny outdoor patio with playlet for the kiddos. This is the spot for hanging with friends.
Brown Fox Coffee: A walkup coffee bar in the heart of Old Village. This is the spot to meet your neighbors on a Saturday morning.
Coastal Crust: Outdoor eatery next to Vintage Coffee serving up wood fired pizza with fresh, local ingredients.
Sunsets Shem Creek: New to the Shem Creek scene, with waterfront dining and of course seafood.
The Red Drum: Our personal favorite. Described as “South by Southwest”, expect the very best in local seafood with a southwest flair. We go wild for the Enchiladas and the Grouper is the best we’ve ever had.
Pitt Street Pharmacy: An institution on the scene since 1937. The iconic soda fountain stands as a testament to the good ole days and old fashioned fun.
Tavern & Table: A favorite eatery with stunning waterfront views on Shem Creek. We love the cheese boards & flat breads, and you can’t go wrong with the Roast Chicken. Also, one of our go to spots for a handcrafted cocktail at sunset.
Opal: An elegant setting just off of the IOP connector serving made in house pastas and the most exquisite charcuterie boards. Also, a fabulous wine list.
Tres Palmas: Our pick for acai bowls and all the toppings. (we adore Nutella)
Wood & Grain: A favorite neighborhood eatery. This is the place for wood fired pizza, seafood (including raw bar), and the very best fresh Tuna around.
Hustle Smoothie: Localebrity Helen Hall’s smoothie bar serving up the almost world famous blender bomb balls and more.
Ville Sainte Bistro: A french dining experience in an unassuming location just off of 17. French born Chef Carol Robert creates the most delicious gastronomy experience straight from a Parisian bistro.
Five Loaves Cafe: Our lunch spot offering creative sandwich combos, soup flights, and the best Caeser Salad in town.
