Historic Charleston Peninsula: French Quarter

Life on the historic peninsula of Charleston is unlike any other place in the US. It’s truly a place where Southern charm exudes around every corner whether it’s the cobblestone streets found in the famed French Quarter or the elegance and grandeur of South of Broad. Each of the distinct neighborhoods has a feel and vibe all of its own, and once you visit we’re certain you’ll want to stay on forever.

One of our favorite things about living in the Holy City (named as such because no building is higher than the highest church steeple), is the rich history that is on display through its architecture. These marvels that grace the streets are a living testament of the storied and at times enduring past, and seem to tell a story all of their own. You’ll notice Charleston single and double homes, Georgian townhomes, Antebellum style mansions, and of course the famous row homes of Rainbow Row, and be beckoned back to a time long ago. And of course there are all of the courtyards, wrought-iron gates that provide entrance into intimate parks, gas lanterns, and cobblestone streets all of which create a certain allure to the peninsula.

The Vibe

Charleston’s French Quarter neighborhood in the heart of the historic peninsula is a vibrant enclave in with a charm of the past. A walk around the cobblestone streets that make up this area between Market Street and Waterfront Park, is dominated by many cafes, restaurants, and art galleries. There is a peaceful existence here and one of rich history with centuries-old buildings offering a glimpse into the city’s storied past. We love how you can be minutes away but yet worlds apart.
