Charleston Wine & Food Festival

Marching into our favorite month (it’s our birthday month)! And of course, March here in Charleston is when the city really starts to come alive, with azaleas and magnolias of course. It’s also the unofficial start to tourist season, though some of us wonder if there truly is a season since it seems to last all year. One thing is for sure, this month is for exploring and with the anticipation of warmer beach days ahead it’s a great opportunity to check out one of our favorite festivals that happens in the City of Charm just once a year.

The annual Charleston Wine & Food Festival, is a foodie’s paradise, which simply can’t be missed, happens March 6-10th. “Charleston Wine + Food was founded in 2005 by a group of loyal community leaders with a vision of creating an event to promote + elevate Charleston’s culinary brand. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the goal was to put Charleston on the map as a culinary destination and bring national + international attention to the city through the production of a multi-day wine + food festival. Charleston Wine + Food infuses homegrown flavor with top chefs, winemakers, authors, storytellers, artisans, experts, and food enthusiasts from around the globe for a five-day event that spans the first full weekend each March.” We love that they are on a mission to give back by celebrating and educating the community through this incredible culinary experience. In fact, they tout the fact that 90 cents of every dollar spent to produce the festival impacts the local community. Last year alone, they employed more than 200 local contractors and over 500 businesses. And if that’s not enough, in the last 18 years that the festival has been running, they have seen over 411,000 attendees and generated more than $170 million in economic impact for the local area.

So, if the give back component isn’t enough, this event offers gastronomy experiences such as tastings, wine pairings, cooking classes, and more that are truly incredible. You’ll see a full line up of in-restaurant brunches, lunches, and dinners, cooking classes, beverage workshops, large walkabout thematic events, educational excursions, and a Culinary village setup at Riverfront Park in North Charleston.  The Culinary village includes: Food Trucks, Foodie Kitchens, Snack Shacks, A Beer Garden, A Rose Garden, A Zero Garden, An Artisan Market, a Book Nook, and even a Silent Disco. It truly gives you a sense of the diverse food scene that we get to partake in daily here locally.

Take a peek at a few highlights where tickets are still available, or just purchase a pass to the Culinary village to get a grand sampling.

We look forward to seeing you there foodies, it’s sure to be a time to sip, savor, and celebrate the culinary symphony where every glass raised and every bite shared is a toast to the good times that linger at least until next March!
