Exploring Pet-Friendly Charleston: 12 hours in the Holy City

Welcome to the charming city of Charleston, South Carolina, where Southern hospitality extends to our furry companions too! Here we get to enjoy historic landmarks, trendy cafes, beautiful parks, and boutique shopping. There’s truly something for every pet and their owner to enjoy. Join us as we embark on a pet-friendly adventure through our beloved city.

Exploring the Historic Battery with Your Furry Friend

We started our day with a leisurely stroll along the Battery, a picturesque promenade boasting stunning views of Charleston Harbor and historic mansions. With our four-legged friend by our side, we got a chance to soak in the sun, take in the sights of the beautiful harbor and mansions, and Folly loved it. Don't forget to snap a few Instagram-worthy photos!

A Stop for Tea Time at Harken Cafe

After our walk, we headed over to one of our favorite cafes in the heart of the historic French Quarter, Harken Cafe. This sweet, petite cafe welcomes pets on their outdoor patio, where you can relax and enjoy a refreshing cup of tea or coffee accompanied by delicious pastries. Treat your furry friend to some water and maybe a special doggie biscuit while you unwind.

Discover the Charm of the French Quarter

Next, take a leisurely stroll through the French Quarter, known for its cobblestone streets, art galleries, and quaint boutiques. We adore browsing through the unique shops and art galleries, and Folly loves to check out the art just as much as we do.

Retail Therapy on King Street

For some retail therapy, head to King Street, Charleston's premier shopping destination. From upscale boutiques to eclectic shops, you'll find everything from fashion and jewelry to home decor. Many stores along King Street welcome well-behaved pets, so feel free to bring your furry friend along as you explore.

Savor Fresh Seafood at 167 Raw

When hunger strikes, make your way to 167 Raw for a delicious seafood lunch. This cozy eatery is known for its fresh oysters, lobster rolls, and seafood tacos. Though, we can’t seem to get past their Tuna Burger, it is our #1 dish in all of the city. And we love that they allow pets in their outdoor courtyard. It’s truly such a great way to get a respite from the walking and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Charleston.

Relax at Charleston Place

After lunch, take some time to unwind at Charleston Place, a luxurious hotel in the heart of the city. Situated amidst historic architecture and cobblestone streets, Charleston Place offers a pet-friendly environment where you and your furry companion can relax and recharge. Take it from us, this is one of the best spots for people watching, and check out their calendar, as they typically have a wide range of pop-ups and events.

Experience a Rickshaw Ride

For a unique way to explore the city, hop aboard a rickshaw and let a friendly local guide you through the streets of Charleston. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights as you glide past historic landmarks and charming neighborhoods. This was Folly’s first ride and it’s safe to say she was at first curious and they in love.

Retreat to Emeline for the Night

Finally, end your day with a comfortable stay at Emeline, a boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Charleston. With stylish accommodations and pet-friendly amenities, Emeline offers the perfect retreat for you and your furry friend after a day of exploring. We have done many a staycations here and love the pet turn down service with bed, bowls, and a goodnight biscuit.
